iTunes responsible for 25% of US music sales

The NPD Group, a private market research firm, recently performed a study that found iTunes to be the number one music retailer in the United States for the first half of 2009.

“Apple iTunes leads in the U.S. with 25 percent of music units sold, which is up from 21 percent in 2008 and 14 percent in 2007.”

As you can probably guess, iTunes is also the most popular (legal) digital music provider in the US, with 69% of the market share, Amazon takes second with a mere 8%.
