The following guide helps you get the 256kb\s iTunes ringtones

- Open iTunes
- Find a Ringtone you want (I’m going to use Halloween Theme 2007, and it must be a ringtone not a song or video)
- Preview the ringtone, then close iTunes
- Open iFile and navigate to /var/tmp/MediaCache
- Open diskcacherepository.plist
- You will see a link like “http://a1474.phobos.apple.com/us/r1000/028/Music/db/de/69/mzm.dpvpdlmp.aac.p.m4p”
- Copy the link
- Open Safari and paste the link
- Download the ringtone
- Re-open iFile and navigate to the Downloads folder (var/mobile/Library/Downloads I believe)
- Rename “mzm.dpvpdlmp.aac.p.m4p” to “Halloween.m4r”
- Copy/Cut the file to “/var/stash/Ringtones”
- Open Settings and set your new ringtone.
- PS. I always delete the MediaCache folder before starting

App Review : iBlast Moki

Blast Moki is a first-time game from developers Godzilab. And as a first time games developer you have to at least try to stand out from the crowd.. At very least by being creative and original otherwise your app will linger in the app-void for many many years.

Does iBlast Moki accomplish that? Yes!

The game-play is simple : move your Mokis (cute balloon-type bubbles) from point A to point B where point B is a vortex. The catch..?..well you have to use ropes, bombs, screws, wheels, balloons in order to safely get the Mokis home. Keep in mind that bombs can be set with a time delay before exploding.

There are six beautifully rendered worlds (70 levels in 6 worlds) that are a joy to look at as well as a level editor should you be inspired to create your own puzzle as I was. The music and sound effects work a treat, and I did feel sorry for the Moki when he yelped while being blasted.. but what fun I had.

iBlast Moki has everything you want in a puzzler. Cute graphics. Nice music. Re-playability. On-line scores. Level editor. In short this is a great game to add to your collection and at the current price of only $1.99 and having hours of enjoyment you simply cant go wrong.

Microsoft Beat Apple on the Tablet

Microsoft-CourierI’m sure we all held our breath expecting Apple to announce the new i-Touch with camera as well as the new Apple Tablet. Unfortunately it was not to be and instead Microsoft decided to creep under every ones radar and steal the thunder from right under Apples nose.

What am I talking about? Microsoft’s new tablet : The Courier.

The Courier is currently close to completion and according to theses videos.. looks pretty nice too. Although the “tablet” looks more like a “booklet”, the double screens can either be used with a stylus or with your finger.

Gizmodo have the low down on The Courier and will keep their eyes firmly on developments. So check back regularly for updates.

In the meantime check out the video.

App Review: Ynth

Ynth is a 2-d platform puzzler in which you, as a small bug, must rotate a box (with mazes in them and sometimes filled with various obstacles) across a marshland while avoiding other various falling obstacles. In order to progress it involves you tipping these boxes over by touching on-screen buttons(left or right) in order for you to direct your bug safely to a corner before pushing the same block towards your goal.

Additional elements, such as one way doors and springs add to the difficulty in later levels.

The game controls and artwork are simple and work well. You can jump left/right or (if you are against a wall) rotate the box you are in 90 degrees again either to the left/right.Falling will kill you unless its a height of no more than 2 levels high. The mud, if fallen into, can also kill you.

The game-play is good but some of these levels are very long with many blocks to move, and having to re-start all the way from the beginning when you’ve made a small mistake a few turns away from your exit can be incredibly frustrating. A level over-view would be nice at the beginning of the level so you can at least see how far to go or plan your moves.

Ynth is a good game that could be a great game. It certainly is worth a try if you looking for a different action puzzler.

Futureproof iPhone 3.1 jail-break

pwnagetool-pwned
OK guys if you’ve resisted the urge, so far, to update your firmware on your iDevice, then you’re pretty much safe… but if you’ve updated, well here’s what the Dev-Team had to say:

“Now, there are ways to ensure that even after taking an official 3GS update (which you really shouldn’t do!), that you’ll nonetheless be able to revert to a jail-breakable 3GS (this is NOT true for the unlock)…we realize that some of you updated your 3GS to 3.1 anyway. If you want to come back to the world of the jailbreak (but NOT the sim unlock, sorry!) then saurik’s new “on file” server may be able to help.”

So basically what they saying is that Saurik (creator of Cydia) has created an easy way for your i-Phone’s ECID SHSH to be stored on file on a Cydia server. This file is important for future jail-breaking/unlocking.

In short if you still want to jail-break/unlock your iPhone 3GS then don’t update to 3.1 firmware via i-Tunes. The only way to update our firmware for jail-broken i-Phones is to use PwnageTool.

However If you are still curious about updating your i-Phone then trying out the Pwnage Tool, then please read on as there are a few points you may want to consider before going ahead:
1. Upgrading your i-Phone to OS 3.1 will lock your Base-band permanently and there is no downgrading option available at the moment.
2. The Pwnage Tool will only work on (a) the original iPhone, (b) original i-Touch, and (3) i-Phone 3G. The rest cannot be broken at this time.
3. You will need a Mac to run Pwnage Tool 3.1. The Windows version should follow shortly.

You can find links to download Pwnage Tool 3.1 on the Dev-Team website as well as following the guide by Ashish on The Apple Bites. And please make sure to read all the instructions and warnings thoroughly before attempting.

Final note, please be aware that any unofficial unlocking of your i-Device brings with it a void on your Apple warranty. So take care.

Has the new OS 3.1 update bricked your iPhone?

by Guest on September 14, 2009 · 0 comments

Recently having trouble after the new OS 3.1 update? Well you’re not alone. Reading through all the recent articles and forums I’ve seen that quite a number of i-Phone users have experienced problems:
- Home button not working properly.
- Internet constantly crashing.
- E-mails, texts, voice-messages occurring all at once.
- Screen shots locking the phone/touch.
- Bricking
To combat this some users have recommended reinstalling i-Tunes 9 and reinstalling 3.1 firmware. Of course if your i-Phone/i-Touch is bricked then i-Tunes will not recognize your device and you may have to do a D.F.U/Restore.

However if you’re still in warranty then the safest and quickest way to fix the problem is to head to the Apple Store for a new phone replacement, but for those of us who have out-of-warranty phones it’s a hefty +$199 replacement.

If any of you have come across any of these issues and solutions then please feel free to leave a comment.

WriteRoom: An iPhone Text Editor

by Guest 6 August 2009 apple

As a student and sometimes writer, I have often tried to integrate my iPhone into my note-taking workflow.  I’ve tried several solutions – the default Notes app, for example, and no end of shoddily programmed Notes alternatives.  But they all feel too clunky to really rely on as a robust text editor, and each one [...]
