Steve Jobs is looking down at us, smiling. The whole world is mourning his demise and paying tribute to him. Honoring his iconic status, his admirers have also given him a memorial.

That’s right! People gathered at New York’s Fifth Avenue with candles, roses, notes and apples to pay tribute to the technology wizard who gave Apple Inc to this world. They all gathered at the Apple Store located there which is now being seen as a memorial of Steve Jobs.

Flying balloons and notes sent a clear message to Apple Inc and to the world that how much Steve Jobs would be missed. The admirers of Steve Jobs wanted to tell Apple Inc that they are with them in this hard time when their founder has left this world.

People die everyday but few are remembered for their accomplishments. Steve Jobs was and will always be one of them.

Building An Apple Store

Steve Jobs has left the company of mortals. But his actions immortalize him in our hearts and memories. Creating an Apple Store in in your own yard can be an innovative way of paying tribute to him. Jobs deserves such innovative tribute as his innovative ideas set new parameters of success, given the achievements of Apple Inc under Jobs.

This may sound absurd but this is what some Apple Fanboys have done by remodeling their home in the style of an Apple Store.

To build this Apple store, you can host a collection of Apple products, speeches from Steve Jobs, create a Hall of Fame of celebrities that use Apple products. There can also be a section of reading materials that enhances the knowledge of reader on Mac, iPod, iPhone and iPad.

Other suggested items can be available biographies of Steve Jobs (as official biography is yet to be released) and DVDs of Pirates of Silicon Valley, a movie that explores the foundation of Apple and the life and rise of Steve Jobs to success.

Same thing happened when Apple Inc founder Steve Jobs passed away. Time Magazine issued an order to its press to halt the work on their regular issue and launched a special issue, dedicating its cover and 21 pages to the life and achievements of Steve Jobs. This issue also carries a six page essay written by Walter Issacson who has also written the officially authorized biography of Steve Jobs.

This special issue discusses how Jobs established himself as one of the most successful business executives of modern times.

Jobs was an achiever and would always be remembered as one, considering all the innovative and unique gadgets and ideas he gave that unleashed a revolution in the world of technology and gadgets.

Special issue paying tribute to Jobs, coming from TIME, Will there be another visionary, nobody knows, not even time.

Remember the days when grandma would read books to you and you would sleep peacefully to the warmth of he voice? But today with less time to spare for the kiddies we hardly have time to read to them. In this day and age comes an interesting and helping app “My Grandma Reads Me Books”.
The app has a recorded story called “My Grandma Reads Me Books”. The story is as beautiful as the beautiful illustrations. They are beautiful paintings used as backdrop for the story. The music alongside is peaceful and soothing as well.

You can record the story in your own voice for when you aren’t around .you could also have other family members to record the stories in their voices. Though there is only one pre-recorded story that comes with the app you could record other stories as well. There are five more slots to fill up different other stories that you can record or the same story in different voices. The drawback being the story with illustrations on the display is “My Grandma Reads Me Books”. Which hardly is a drawback considering your kid is going to listen to your recorded voice and not read the story.

Apart from the book there is a maze game as well comprising of 3 levels . It will engage your kid thoroughly. It is a learning game ,teaches the kid eye-to-hand coordination and helps them to learn to focus.
The fun doesn’t end there. There’s a color book which has a story in it as well. Plus the color book is engaging on its own with beautiful images. The music along side through the app is soothing and every time you tap the colors to select for filling in the pictures it makes a musical sound.

Thierry Mugler is a French fashion designer and the App Thierry Mugler–Angel is an app about branding of the perfume ANGEL. The design and concept of branding is very good and eye catching. The lovely Eva Mendes being the brand ambassador helps it being more impactful.

The App starts with creating your dream by selecting stars from the angel sky. The words you select shows a video matching them. There are a wide range of stars that you can select and see different videos which are basically a set of pictures played in motion.

You can also create a constellation by selecting the stars in the form of words that define your mood for the day. These days when we get frustrated from not finding the right information we rely on technology to help us. What should you do if you wanted an attorney? You should rely on “iSeekLAW”. This new App in the App Store under the ‘reference’ category is an App. The goal of the App is to find attorneys closest to you. Which may not seem help enough since there are directories which would do the same, but with this app you will be able to find an attorney most feasible as well.

This app is as simple as the name ‘iSeeklaw’ is. It is extremely easy to use. All you need to do is fill in a simple form as to which area you want the attorney. Then select the field from the various options such as criminal, personal, real estate and so on. Once done, there are sub options like Personal-car accidents, medical malpractice etc. Finally you can search for legal assistance in your area or fill in the lawyer details in the form such as name, age, work experience, which isn’t advisable since too many filters do not give too many options or any options at all for the chosen area. The best way would be to select “search for all” options instead of the heavy filters.

Although the app is very helpful in finding the attorney, it does not give any insight on the legal system in any area. So one is clueless about what action to take apart from taking help from the attorney. Having said that, it helps you reliably if you use the least number of filters. You can bookmark the search options for further references. The winner hereon is, you can connect with your search option (attorney) through your device itself. Anytime, anyplace, any problem is an appropriate tag line for the app.

Pinball games have always been a thrilling genre attracting game addicts from all over the map. This one perfectly satisfied my appetite for a tilt game and rendered an extremely engaging gameplay.

Rollover is a an exciting tilt game with a multiball using the accelerometer feature, where you have to knock down all the obstacles to move to the next level. The game starts with simple levels which builds up the fun and once you progress to the deeper levels, there are interesting puzzles to unlock.

Being a tilt game, its effortless to understand, and what’s unique about the App is the special mix up of obstacles and targets in the different levels, the blend of bright colors and a neat UI ensuring an appealing app for all tilt game lovers. During the App, you are given five balls with the help of which you clear all the targets by tilting these balls over them.

To bring in more delight, a player is awarded with medals like Golden, Silver and Bronze which depends upon the time you take to clear a particular level. While you keep on destroying objects, you gain points in every damage. With an extensive 100 levels, as you clear the initial levels the App becomes more enchanting. At times, the App also tested my patience in tilting the ball accurately to vanish the obstacles.

The no-sweat part of Rollover is once you get through required set of levels, you will be awarded free passes in case you are lazy to play any particular level. The App is perfect for an iPad HD update. I wish the developers roll it out fast.

How To: Create a Bootable OS X Lion USB Stick

Here’s how you can create a bootable USB Stick (Avoid creating DVD, it’s very slow as we tested)

Follow these steps after you have downloaded the Install Max OS X file from Mac App Store (or from any other source).

Step 1: Go to the downloaded file called “Install Mac OS X” app downloaded via the Mac App Store, right click on the icon and click on “Show Package Contents”.

Step 2: Open folder ‘Content’ > ‘SharedSupport‘. Copy the DMG file to your desktop.

Step 3: Open Disk Utility

Step 4: Insert a 4 GB or more USB Stick to your Mac and Select the USB Stick in Disk Utility. Click on ‘Image‘ button and navigate to your desktop where you earlier copied the DMG file from Step 2.

Step 5: Drag and drop your USB drive to Destination text box and click on Restore button.

Step 6: When restore is complete, Restart your Mac Press and Hold the Alt key after the startup sound. Hold Alt key until you see a bootmenu and select the USB drive to boot.

Done! Your Lion installation will begin now. You can have this USB Stock stored as your backup installation device for OS X 10.7 Lion.

The problem was” Leopaard [sic]”. Could Steve Jobs have mistyped Leopard on his iPhone when the wrong spellings are corrected by the autocorrectors? The error would have crept through. Even in the developer preview, there’s a way to do a clean install of Lion: create a blank partition, format it as HFS+, and tell the installer to install Lion there.

But now Apple has got a better way to clean install Lion and a new system is given out. There are many methods to do it. Making people keep their Snow Leopard discs around — or buy two separate Apple operating systems in order to perform a clean install of one of them. Apple’s moving Lion to the Mac App Store to get rid of optical discs.

Mail 2: The website Emails from Steve Jobs on 20th June 2011 posted a similar email from Steve addressing the same topic:

Dear Mr. Jobs,

“I just wanted to know if there will be a way to install Lion on a new HDD/SSD without previously installing 10.6?”

From the appearance it seems like the update of the existing versions to add to the levels. The company always sends updates a few days before to keep their users waiting and curious. Since the name given is Summer Pignic, the theme would be based on summer and so it was assumed that it would be released by end of July.

Boiling Will Charge Your iPhone

After the disaster in Japan, a Japanese company has come up with a new way of charging mobile devices while heating a pot of water over a campfire. It is a new method for saving energy resources and utilizing a source which is simple and most of them use it in their day to day life.

The Hatsuden-nabe thermo-electric cookpot turns the heat from the boiling water into electricity which is fed through a USB port into the mobile devices. Heat from this can charge radios, flashlights, music players and others if they have a USB port. It takes almost 3-5 hours to charge a device.

It started off when TES New-Energy, a company in western city of Osaka made and sold a gadget in Japan for 24,150 yen or $299. It has many uses to save energy, a way to survive in places which have very less electricity supply, or for back ups in places which have been affected by a disaster recently. Mobile chief Executive Kazuhiro Fujita said that they got this idea after the Japan incident where they saw people suffering. They say that the pot will be used in mainly emergency conditions and people can use it for outdoor activities like travelling.

TES New Energy was set up in 2010 to promote products based on technology developed at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Japan’s largest public research organization.

It also makes and markets equipment to transform residual heat from industrial waste furnaces into electricity. The company says the pot will be used mainly in emergency situations, for outdoor activities and also has uses in developing countries.

Director and co-developer Ryoji Funahashi said “Unlike a solar power generator, our pot can be used regardless of time of day and weather while its small size allows people to easily carry it in a bag in case of evacuation”.

iPhone 4S/5 Reaches Final Testing Stage, Verizon yet to Confirmed its Support to 3G Facetime

iPhone 4S/5 and Apple’s FaceTime video chat service holds a great promising year ahead. 9to5Mac revealed on their site that iPhone 4S/5 has reached its final testing stage that has been carried out by Apple and carrier executive.

Not only this even the site has informed that Apple and Verizon are working out to support for 3G FaceTime calls and over-the-air updates for iOS 5.

According to 9to5Mac:

The next generation iPhone has reached the final testing stage (aka “AP” stage [Thanks, Chronic!]) and is now being carried around by high level Apple and carrier executives.

Although this has been assumed since the no-iPhone-at-WWDC-rumors broke, the current plan is for a September launch for the next-generation iPhone.

Apple and Verizon have yet to strike a deal regarding FaceTime over 3G for the Verizon network. Keep in mind that 3G and 4G aren’t the same thing. < Don’t read into that too much. Or maybe do.

Apple and Verizon are still working out kinks regarding support for iOS 5?s over-the-air updates, which we broke the news about, so carrier support may or may not be delayed past fall 2011.

Steve Jobs Confirmed Discontinuation of iWeb (email)

iWeb will not be there after June 30, 2012. Apple CEO Steve Jobs has confirmed the discontinuation of iWeb through email. Now the iWeb user has to find alternate hosting for their sites once MobileMe is officially discontinued.

According to MacRumors:

“One concerned iWeb/MobileMe user emailed Apple CEO Steve Jobs to ask about the fate of the offering, and reportedly received confirmation that users will indeed need to find alternative hosting for their sites once MobileMe is officially discontinued. We have been expecting that Apple will announced the integration of Nuance voice technology into iOS 5 at Worldwide Developers Conference but the Cupertino Company has not mention of Nuance during the keynote. Here, a screenshots showing Nuance integration in iOS 5 has been posted by Chronic with the help of Sonny Dickson.

According to iClarified:

Multiple sources reiterated that they still believed Apple was working with Nuance and perhaps negotiations weren’t complete or the feature wasn’t yet ready for the iOS 5 unveiling. Supporting this was the finding of Nuance in Mac OS X Lion and the attendance of Nuance’s Chief Mobile Technology Architect at the keynote.

Now Chronic and Sonny Dickson have posted definitive proof that Apple is indeed working with Nuance. An internal settings menu reveals Nuance Dictation and Nuance Long Endpoi… switches for the Springboard. Another settings menu reveals Mic on space key, Auto-Record Input and other toggles

Comex, the jailbreak hacker who developed the popular website JailbreakMe to jailbreak iOS 4.0.x has updated the site. JailbreakMe is the popular browser based jailbreak tool

The site revealed that a new version of JailbreakMe 2.0 probably a JailbreakMe 3.0 will be out soon.

Earlier Comex revealed that it has successfully jailbroken iPad 2 as when it was released but Apple was quick to fix iPad 2 jailbreak vulnerability in iOS 4.3.1.

According to iClarified site:

Earlier today Comex tweeted a teaser image that shows a ski slope and a sign with black diamond and PDF symbols. The ski slope and diamond icon could be a reference to ‘alpine’ which is the default password for root access on iOS. The PDF could be a reference to the previous PDF exploit Comex uncovered in iOS 4.0 (JailbreakMe 2.0).

So far Comex didn’t mention any thing about new version of JailbreakMe which can support iPad 2 jailbreak. Many users are anxiously waiting to Jailbreak iPad 2; there have been a news update and rumors of possibility to jailbreak iPad 2.

Pair of iPhones to Fly with Last Space Shuttle Mission

iPhone the most popular smartphone on the planet which has set many records is now going on board Space Shuttle Atlantis . Here, a pair of iPhone has got NASA stamp approval for shuttle mission. This device will run an experimental app developed by Odyssey Space Research.

“Odyssey Space Research (OSR) app, SpaceLab, will help the crew members conduct experiments using the iphones’ cameras, gyroscopes, and accelerometers.”

According to OSR CEO Brian Rishikof:

The iPhone 4′s debut was the inspiration for the SpaceLab App, mainly because of the included Gyroscope. Because of this added functionality it became possible to develop programs that could possibly determine a vehicles orientation in space. It’s no surprise then that OSR develops space navigational systems.

The four experiments will be:
- A “limb tracker,” which lets astronauts take a picture of the Earth’s limb (its curved edge). The app then estimates the iPhone’s altitude.
- A sensor calibration tool that uses camera images plus multiple sensors to calibrate the phone’s gyroscope and accelerometers.
- Latitude and longitude estimation using photos of the Earth and matching them to wireframes of coastlines.
- A test to see if space radiation affects computer memory by watching for unintended changes to single bits in the iPhones’ RAM.

According to latest report, Windows XP the world’s most popular operating system will not be able to rub shoulder with Apple latest released iClould.

Using iCloud with a PC requires Windows Vista or Windows 7; Outlook 2010 or 2007 is recommended for accessing contacts and calendars.

Apple Recalled Tiny Number of Verizon iPads Over Identical ID Numbers

A few numbers of Verizon iPad 2 was recalled because the products was unintentionally shipped with identical electronic serial numbers and Apple has confirmed this to Allthingsd site.

“Duplicate MEID numbers were flashed onto an extremely small number of iPad 2 units for the verizon 3G network,” an Apple representative told AllThingsD.

The numbers, officially known as mobile equipment identifiers (MEIDs), are important in the activation of devices that use Verizon’s cellular network and are designed to be unique to the individual device.

On Monday, Apple at Worldwide Developers Conference has revealed that it has sold 25 million iPads since the tablet debuted a year ago.

A company by the named iCloud Communications has filed a suit in Arizona – US District Court against Apple. The company reports a trademark infringement over the use of iCloud name by Apple.

According to iClarified:
“iCloud Communications LLC is claiming that Apple’s heavy promotion of the iCloud product is damaging its business and has removed the branding of the name and placed it onto Apple. To make matters worse, iClouds Communication’s services are nearly identical to the ones offered by Apple.”

The goods and services with which Apple intends to use the “iCloud” mark are identical to or closely related to the goods and services that have been offered by iCloud Communications under the iCloud Marks since its formation in 2005. However, due to the worldwide media coverage given to and generated by Apple’s announcement of its “iCloud” services and the ensuing saturation advertising campaign pursued by Apple, the media and the general public have quickly come to associate the mark “iCloud” with Apple, rather than iCloud Communications.

It was also known that the company didn’t claim any monetary relief but has asked Apple to stop using the word iCloud.

Apple has experience lot of this thing in the past but this time it can be different for the Cupertino Company. Apple has recently launched iCloud service at WWDC.

ContactsXL comes with a lot of features like creating groups, restore pictures and information from your Facebook friends. You can even quickly send group SMS or email, get alert of birthdays, search and manage your contacts by any field, import Facebook friends, create smart groups, view the contact photos next to their names in the lists, browse your contacts with Coverflow and many other things.

Arrange your contacts into groups by creating a group and adding contacts manually to that group. Remember that Smart groups work based on rules. If they fit the rules, contacts are added to that group automatically.

Sync with Facebook is just a part of the app and that works pretty well. Synchronize the contacts in your address book with your Facebook friends, retrieving their photo, company, job title, date of birth and address. There is a search option to search for a particular contact and sort them with any fields. Smart T9 Dialer is worth praising feature in ContactsXL.

Overall, the app is great and well-developed from Jonathan Teboul. However a little enhancement in interface and design will be a lot better and can take this app to higher level. I highly recommended to those people who have a lot of contacts, friends and groups.
