It is said that one should change with times. Those who do not change with times face problems.

Apple strictly wants its users to change with times. At least that seems to be the case with those who use iOS 3.1.3.

According to various online reports, users of older versions of iOS may not not be able to download or use new apps because with the App Store is not entertaining the users who did not update their their iPhones or iPod Touches past iOS 3.1.3.

Apple has always strongly urged its users to install the latest version of an operating system, whether that be the latest and greatest release of OS X on a Mac, or the newest version of iOS available. It is a great way of spoiling the chances of potential bugs and security holes and at the same time, making sure that the developers have less OS fragmentation to deal with.

However, some people are never interested in updating or upgrading. There are various reports saying that devices running iOS 3.1.3 or earlier versions are unable to download apps from App Store.

Discussions are going on in Apple’s support forums. Some users are reporting that download buttons are missing the on-device App Store and some images (especially screenshot) are not getting displayed.

Few days ago, a fake app that had “jailbreak” in its name appeared on App store. It was being claimed by the developer of the app that it could jailbreak all kinds of iOS firmwares.

Obviously this app was fake. If one knew how jail breaking worked, he would have realized that. Apple has been against jailbreaking as jail breaking exploits cause security problems. However, after its presence in app store for four days, Apple found out that the app was fake.

The app has been pulled out from the app store.

The carried a price tag of $9.99 which means the app was developed and sent to app store by some con artist.

The question remains how was an app meant for jailbreaking was allowed to be available at app store.

The Center for Biomedical Informatics (CBMi) at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has developed Genome Wowser, an app for looking into genomic information. The App is described as expedient, perceptive and highly portable. It can be easily downloaded from the iTunes App Store SM by any iPad user.

Similar to the planning of travel routes under Google Maps we can navigate with ease the human genome using Genome Wowser. The general use of this App is that when a particular gene name is entered in the search box it finds the gene on one of the 23 human chromosomes. Along side it displays an attractive image of its exact location among the genome’s 3 billion base pairs.

Footnotes added by researchers provide an overview of the gene’s suspected biological functions and possible mutations and variants. The  chromosome region can be zoomed into by pinching and spreading the screen.

Peter White the director of CBMi summarized the App as an initiative to create closeness towards the human genome and as a interactive and easy to use App.

iTunes and App Store considered as Apple’s cashing giants where claimed as a not so yielding source to Apple. But it has surprisingly been the major profit earner for Apple.

Many never really took Apple’s claims that the iTunes and App Store didn’t generate much profit, but Asymco blogger Horace Dediu revealed some very convincing numbers using data published by Apple during last weeks WWDC.

As estimated by Apple their digital store downloads has reached 15 billion songs, 130 million books, and 14 billion apps. Dediu pooled these numbers with standard price of songs, books and apps purchased to come up a monthly total income of $313 million versus $113 million in operating costs. That $113 million a month equates to nearly $1.3 billion a year to run the iTunes and App Stores. Still leaving about $200 million in profits even after expenses.

However, the comments by Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer that iTunes is running just over break even does make sense after analyzing just where that excess money is going. The promotional growth and traffic the App Store has seen since its conception and the growth of the iTunes store as well means more and more money must be put into development and conservation. Still $200 million in expansion and investment would be quite ridiculous. But if  you understand capital investment vs an Income Statement you will know that times of heavy investment, like say dropping $1 billion into a data facility would show iTunes and the App Store as breaking even, or taking a loss for the year.

Not having an open look at Apple’s accounting techniques and internal financial statements all this is still educated presumptions. However, at $1.3 billion in operating costs, the App Store and iTunes store generate enough income.

With the Apple App Store copyright issue far from being resolved, Apple has begun issuing cease and desist orders to websites using the term, including the Wireless Industry Partnership (WIP), as it tries to defend its trademark.

Just a day after it announced iOS 5 to the world, Apple sent a cease and desist letter to the group, asking it to stop using the term “App Store” in the title of its App Store Catalog and App Store Reports services, noting that it ”improperly suggests to U.S. consumers that numerous companies offer an APP STORE mobile download service, when in fact the term APP STORE refers exclusively to Apple’s groundbreaking download service.”

WIP’s App Store Catalog exists to list the burgeoning number of mobile application marketplaces around the world, whereas its Reports (quite obviously) gives developers a look at some of the metrics of different App Stores.

Apple’s war on inappropriate use of the term “App Store” began it filed a claim to trademark the term ‘App Store’ to prevent its rivals from using the same term for their own stores.

Apple trademark application has seen lot of obstacles and hurdles from Microsoft, Amazon, Nokia, HTC, and Sony. Till now WIP has just received cease and desist orders but Amazon has already been sued for using the term ‘App Store.’

Microsoft has joined HTC, Nokia, and Sony in the fight against Apple’s App Store trademark application in the EU, according to Digital Daily.

“Microsoft and other leading technology companies are seeking to invalidate Apple’s trademark registration for APP STORE and APPSTORE because we believe that they should not have been granted because they both lack distinctiveness,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement. “The undisputed facts establish that ‘app store’ means exactly what it says, a store offering apps, and is generic for the services that the registrations cover.”

Microsoft and others are also fighting Apple’s registration in the United States. Well, Apple is not going to bow to anyone and whoever comes on its way, Apple will face them. Just like that Apple has sued Amazon and threatened others over use of the alleged mark.

Here are the steps that has to be follow in-order to enable the use of Skype over 3G. Please note that as to follow these instructions you must have jailbroken iPhone.

Step 1.
The first step requires you download and install Skype from the App Store and the next step requires you launch Cydia from the springboard.

Now press to choose the Sections tab at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2.
The second step require you to choose the System sections and press the Mobile Substrate from the list of packages.

The software service provider has criticized Apple for this decision of rejecting Readability app which had been sent for approval by Apple under the section 11.2 of App Store.
