The software service provider has criticized Apple for this decision of rejecting Readability app which had been sent for approval by Apple under the section 11.2 of App Store.

Lets see what Section11.2 says;

Section 11.2 states that any app which utilizes some other system instead of the In App Purchase API for buying content, services or functionality will not be approved.

Well, the reason behind Readability app no making the cut is because 70 percent of the service fees is directly paid to publishers and writers on the net which is financed by the $5 per month subscription and Apple not getting the required 30% cut brought about by the subscription policy.

May be i am not the only one who gets frustrated or annoyed with the need of connecting USB data cable to our computer and iPhone (or any other iOS device) and then sync the phone data to iTunes.

If yes then I should tell you that you are in a treat with a new Cydia store application that allows to wirelessly synchronize your iOS devices and iTunes (on Windows or Mac).

So, if you are one of those who want to get out of the trouble of finding the USB cable every time you want to sync your device, this application is for you.

Please note that a Jailbroken iPhone is required as you might have sensed already.

Step 1.
Launch Cydia from the springboard.

Step 2.
Tap on the Search tab in the bottom.

Step 3.
In the Search box, type Wi-Fi Sync.

Step 4.
Open Wi-Fi Sync.

Step 5.
Install the Cydia application on your device which comes for $9.99. The price might be on the steeper side, but it’s worth it if you have to sync your phone to iTunes on a regular basis.

Step 6.
After you have purchased the application, simply install it by tapping on install and then confirming it.

Step 7.
Now once the application is installed, open Safari from the springboard.

Step 8.
Open Wi-Fi Sync from the springboard on your device.

Step 9.
Open iTunes on your PC.

Note: You would be able to Sync your iPhone to iTunes only if both the handset and the PC are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Step 10.
Now, pair the device with the PC once both the applications are open and you are set to go.

Your iPhone would automatically start syncing with iTunes once both of them are paired.

Just give it a shot and let us know how you like it.

Bye Bye to paper flight charts as now the FAA has given a thumbs up for a flight charter company to begin using the iPad as alternate to paper charts. They prefer iPad as the device is much easier and more efficient for pilots to keep tabs on their flight charts while on the ground and in the air.

As for now the privilege is only applies to Executive Jet Management but the move will no doubt make waves in the aviation space as more aviation companies will adopt the iPad as a paper replacement. The device has been popular among pilots since it debuted last year but so far they’ve only been able to use it for reference and other unofficial tasks.

According to charter company, they had tested the iPad in 10 aircraft across 250 flights to make sure it wouldn’t interfere with sensitive electronic flight instruments onboard. They deemed the iPad “extremely stable” during testing without a single crash and added that if there ever were a system crash, the app could be up and running “in 4-6 seconds from re-launch to previous state”.

“Danny the Dragon Meets Jimmy,” a sign language book with color screen with multiple applications that really define how a book should be to me personally.

When I opened it was just lovely because children can read themselves, or it be would be read to them and one signed by a woman who stands off to the side of the screen, with the reduced-size book running next to her.

To me this app is a first concept of what can be done with electronic books.
According to me I loved the book so colorful and the iPad’s luminous LCD screen really helps the lovely illustrations shine. Children would enjoy watching and playing it.

Parents can try for their child, even I tried, it’s not about only children, anybody who like animations, colors and cartoons will surely find pleasure.

What! Did you say that you wanna try? Go ahead!

But there is a catch, for every transaction you make they will bank 2.9% of the transaction. So if you are planning to use this reader for big transactions this is probably not the credit card reader you should use. But if you only use it ones in a while for small transactions this could be very interesting.

The other good thing is that Square will work with any bank account, so you don’t need a special merchant bank account.

The last interesting thing is that they will donate 1 penny to your favourite charity.

The people who are left behind can use all the support they need and therefore the world is coming into action. That includes the independent iPhone developers community and therefore over 60 other iPhone and Mac developers have decided to donate all revenue their apps generate on the 20th of January 2010 to a good cause which is currently aiding the Haitian people.

There are several causes to which app developers are going to donate their revenue. Some include UNICEF, Doctors without borders, …

Small developers don’t make a lot of revenue, but considering there are about 60 involved, you just know that this action will bring in a lot of money for the Haitian people.

So if you decide to buy an App, certainly check out the Indie Relief website and check to see if there isn’t an alternative that will aid Haiti.

Reports have been coming in surrounding a possible iPhone App release from Apple, which will bring FM radio to the device. Sources claim that it will work as the iPod App in many ways, such as the ability to listen to music/radio while browsing Safari or using other applications. We are not yet sure if the App will be integrated into the currently existing iPod App, or if it will be launched as a stand-alone application.

One of the features which have been mostly discussed, is song tagging, which allows you to tag a song in the radio so that it can later be traced and purchased in the iTunes Store. In many ways, this rumored FM radio capability for the iPhone, seems to be very much like the one in the iPod Nano, though it will probably take advantage of iPhone’s unique functions as well.

Apple has officially answered FCC questions about why Google Voice was rejected to appear in App Store. For those who didn’t keep track of the news, Apple rejected the Google Voice application for iPhone and removed all related third-party application from App Store. The rejection has drawn great attention & criticism around the net and even Federal regulators wanted to know why Apple rejected Google’s innovative Voice app from its App Store.

This is not the very first time Apple rejected iPhone applications submitted for App Store. Developers, bloggers and journalists around the net have criticized Apple for rejecting applications especially for those innovative applications trying to add feature and even replace iPhone’s default application like Phone or Mail applications.

Okay, here is the Apple’s answer to FCC’s question on why the Google Voice application was rejected:

Contrary to published reports, Apple has not rejected the Google Voice application, and continues to study it. The application has not been approved because, as submitted for review, it appears to alter the iPhone’s distinctive user experience by replacing the iPhone’s core mobile telephone functionality and Apple user interface with its own user interface for telephone calls, text messaging and voicemail. Apple spent a lot of time and effort developing this distinct and innovative way to seamlessly deliver core functionality of the iPhone. For example, on an iPhone, the “Phone” icon that is always shown at the bottom of the Home Screen launches Apple’s mobile telephone application, providing access to Favorites, Recents, Contacts, a Keypad, and Visual Voicemail. The Google Voice application replaces Apple’s Visual Voicemail by routing calls through a separate Google Voice telephone number that stores any voicemail, preventing voicemail from being stored on the iPhone, i.e., disabling Apple’s Visual Voicemail. Similarly, SMS text messages are managed through the Google hub—replacing the iPhone’s text messaging feature. In addition, the iPhone user’s entire Contacts database is transferred to Google’s servers, and we have yet to obtain any assurances from Google that this data will only be used in appropriate ways. These factors present several new issues and questions to us that we are still pondering at this time.

The answer is not very convincing. Anyhow, my interpretation is that Apple is telling all developers not to build any iPhone application that tries to replace any existing core iPhone functions. Otherwise, the end result is your application will be rejected. Hey, Apple, just relax. Developers are helping you to build a even better phone. Let us innovate together and build great apps that benefit all iPhone users.

In the response to FCC, Apple also provides more details about how the review process and the team responsible for the approval. It seems to me it’s the very first time that Apple talks about the relatively-secretive review process:

I

n a little more than a year, the App Store has grown to become the world’s largest wireless applications store, with over 65,000 applications. We’ve rejected applications for a variety of reasons. Most rejections are based on the application containing quality issues or software bugs, while other rejections involve protecting consumer privacy, safeguarding children from inappropriate content, and avoiding applications that degrade the core experience of the iPhone.

Apple developed a comprehensive review process that looks at every iPhone application that is submitted to Apple. Applications and marketing text are submitted through a web interface. Submitted applications undergo a rigorous review process that tests for vulnerabilities such as software bugs, instability on the iPhone platform, and the use of unauthorized protocols. Applications are also reviewed to try to prevent privacy issues, safeguard children from exposure to inappropriate content, and avoid applications that degrade the core experience of the iPhone. There are more than 40 full-time trained reviewers, and at least two different reviewers study each application so that the review process is applied uniformly. Apple also established an App Store executive review board that determines procedures and sets policy for the review process, as well as reviews applications that are escalated to the board because they raise new or complex issues. The review board meets weekly and is comprised of senior management with responsibilities for the App Store. 95% of applications are approved within 14 days of being submitted.

Google Voice is great telecommunication service developed by Google and now available to U.S. customer only. Google Voice improves the way you use your phone. It offers a centralized interface to get transcripts of your voicemail and archive or search all of the SMS text messages you send and receive. The best is Google Voice offers a single phone number and through the web interface you can configure that number to ring up to six phones such as your cell phone, home phone, office phone. You can also screen and block unwanted callers via the centralized interface. It’s such a cool service that Google releases it on iPhone but rejected.

Kicked out by Apple, the developer, Sean Kovacs, decided to release the Google Voice on Cydia as “GV Mobile”. So, if you’re from U.S. and with Google Voice account, you can download GV Mobile from cydia and try out on iPhone.

To learn more about Google Voice or get an invite from Google, check the official homepage of Google Voice.

“Apple will not distribute applications that contain
inappropriate content, such as pornography”

Fair enough Tom … thank you for making that perfectly clear. So what happens just a few days later … BeautyMeter and its infamous 15-year-old topless girl makes headlines. Hmmm, so much for Tom’s clarity.

Now flash forward to today … July 30 … Tom – there you go again, shittin’ us with your Apple will not distribute blah, blah, blah crap … nah, these are totally appropriate:

Welcome to theXchange … where user generated nudity, pornography, explicit language and anything else you can think of as sexually inappropriate content, is King!

So what is this place that resembles the movie Caligula? Well theXchange was released by Jim Young as a virtual nightclub. People enter the club … chat with others, then attempt to earn and spend virtual coins to buy drinks or photos of other club members (gee, wonder what kind of pictures are exchanged in theXchange … puppy dogs and lollipops of course … but at least their over 15 years of age).

Oh and of course, the “House Rules” … NO NUDE PHOTOS ALLOWED. Thanks for making that crystal clear Jim … man, you are just as money as Tim from Apple.

But here’s the best part … theXchange launched July 1 … same day the BeautyMeter app was yanked from the App Store due to its user generated nude photos. You would think that a similar user generated content-based app born July 1 (BeautyMeter D-Day) would know better and make an extra effort to police its uploads … but no … theXchange didn’t learn squat. But Jim, don’t feel bad … Apple also flunked that course – however to Apple’s credit, they make a helluv a lot more money than you and can afford the “F”.

Rexi Media today released Presenter Pro 1.1, an iPhone app that helps you improve your delivery skills so that an audience benefits from your presence more so than if they had read your printed slides. Whether you present at a small meeting or a formal large event, here are four ways you can convince an audience that your presentation is worth attending.

San Francisco, CA – Rexi Media has released an iPhone app that helps you improve your delivery skills so that an audience benefits from your presence more so than if they had read your printed slides. Stan Christensen, Lecturer on Negotiation at Stanford University, recently downloaded the app and noted that: “The advice is actionable, and will help anyone raise their game.” Whether you present at a small meeting or a formal large event, here are four ways you can convince an audience that your presentation is worth attending:

1) Incorporate audience interaction
Connecting with the presenter or with other members in the audience is an appealing promise and something that cannot be done with a handout. Participants get motivated when they can connect with others who validate their own point of views (because of similar interest) or show opposing views (therefore inviting further reflection). Printed paper does not talk back. And the silence of a handout does not lead to action.

2) Promise customization of content and flow
When you announce that you will answer questions from the audience (whether 3 or 300 people), and adjust the presentation to their needs, the event is worth more than the fixed sequence and generic, limited approach of the printed word. Such promise also creates curiosity and promises entertainment, through the element of improvisation. When there is no strict flow and rigid structure, attendees are enticed to put away their mobile devices, pay attention, and be happy they didn’t stay home to be barraged by some downloaded slides. In addition, if some of the content is more difficult and requires more processing power, participants will benefit from your presence more than flipping through pages and trying to figure things out on their own.

3) Allow them to practice and offer feedback
When you allow participants to put your message into practice and provide immediate and customized feedback, you have more chances to persuade them. Repetitive interactivity and practice lead to modified behavior. Mere reading has less probability of moving people into action.

4) Liven the content with non-verbals
A handout, even if it’s well written, contains two-dimensional information. Written words can leave a reader flat. Posing and posturing can sometimes be more effective than words and numbers. You can bring the content to life with flamboyant body gestures and optimal vocal variety. Would you rather read a book by Tony Robbins or see him present live?

Next time you ponder scheduling a live presentation (whether face-to-face or online), be exigent with your delivery approach. If you meet at least two of the four points above, deliver a presentation. If you don’t, a handout will do just fine.

Download Rexi Media’s Presenter Pro iPhone app for more tips on how to deliver an outstanding presentation so that an audience gains much more than if they had engaged in solitary reading. Apply the Rexi Media tips and make them say “That was worth an hour of my time.”
