Square is all set to release an updated card reader that encrypts credit card data this summer, according to an SAI report.

It seems although the current Square has meets industry guidelines, Square has decided to upgrade the device in order to meet the best practices of its new investing partner – Visa.

Today, Visa announced mobile security best practices. Square is excited to collaborate with Visa in helping define and shape the security guidelines for the rapidly evolving mobile acceptance space. The adoption of best practices will help increase trust in innovative payment solutions. Of course, Square complies with all current industry standards, and we are committed to meeting or exceeding industry guidelines as they evolve — all while keeping our card reader free.

Just recently Square was criticized by VeriFone for not encrypting transactions.

Most of the time, you don’t need to pause the installation process of any app on your iPad because many apps at the App Store are below 20 MB in size and led to quick installation.

However, if you are in the situation like downloading a certain app which has hundred MB’s in size and also trying to watch a movie on your iPad then knowing how to pause your app install may come very handy.

The steps involved in this process are mentioned below:

Step 1.
Press to select an app. ( Talking Gina)

Step 2.
Starts to download and install the app

Step 3.
While downloading the app you can easily tap on the icon of the new application to pause the download. Normally, a small blue bar will be getting filled up as the application downloading/installation process goes on and under the icon ‘Loading’ will be written.

Step 4.
By tapping on the icon you will then notice that the blue bar suddenly becomes empty and Paused is written below the icon.

Step 5.
You can easily resume the installation process of the app by again tapping on the icon. The blue progress bar will show again and your app will download first and then get installed.

On Tuesday 12 January 2010, Haiti was hit by an earthquake which destroyed the capital Port-au-prince completely, left millions homeless and made more than a hundred thousand deadly victims. The people who are left behind can use all the support they need and therefore the world is coming into action. That includes the independent iPhone developers community and therefore over 60 other iPhone and Mac developers have decided to donate all revenue their apps generate on the 20th of January 2010 to a good cause which is currently aiding the Haitian people.

There are several causes to which app developers are going to donate their revenue. Some include UNICEF, Doctors without borders, …

Small developers don’t make a lot of revenue, but considering there are about 60 involved, you just know that this action will bring in a lot of money for the Haitian people.

So if you decide to buy an App, certainly check out the Indie Relief website and check to see if there isn’t an alternative that will aid Haiti.

Not often do we review windows applications here on tAB. But for a fine Apple related app as CopyTrans we make an exception.

CopyTrans 4 is the fourth major version of the iPod Backup and media extraction application CopyTrans. With CopyTrans you can easily transfer iPod and iPhone media to your PC. As I found out myself, CopyTrans works for every type of iPod. I connected my first iPod ever, which was a first generation iPod Nano and it synced without issues.

Another remarkable feature is the ability of CopyTrans to read iPods or iPhones which are formatted for Mac OSX. This feature makes it ideal for Mac users who need extraction software on their Windows bootcamp partition. Extracting from a Mac formatted iPod or iPhone happens at the same speed as it does on a Windows formatted iPod, which is very speedy.

With CopyTrans you can extract songs, but that’s not all. You can also rebuild your iTunes library. So let’s say, your computer is bricked and you lost all your music. With CopyTrans you can just rebuild your entire iTunes library from an iPod which was previously synced with your PC.

All songs, video’s audiobooks, podcasts, etc., are extracted containing all information iTunes uses to identify them. Which means all downloaded images, lyrics, play counts and ratings are transferred as well.

The interface is very easy to use, but as a Mac user and someone who is quite enthusiastic about the decent Windows 7 Microsoft delivered I have one remark. The theme of CopyTrans is comparable to the brushed metal theme and this is nice if you like other than default themes and it’s perfectly in line with the Apple-based functionality of this application, but for once Microsoft delivered a beautiful operating system with nice themes and an eye on the aesthetics. So why not use the default transparent theme that Windows 7 supplies? It’s not a big issue, but for people who like the native Windows 7 theme this will be a bit of a downer.

Also when you download the default installer, you are presented with a shortcut to the CopyTrans control center which also shows you haven’t installed yet. WIth a simple click you can go to CopyTrans. But it’s easier to have CopyTrans open directly when you open the shortcut. The developer kindly replied to my request for more information about this decision and I found out that you can just download CopyTrans as a standalone application as well, without the control center.

All an all, this is a wonderful application with just the right amount of features and it’s built in such a way that it’s accessible to all. It works with all iPods and iPhones and does exactly what it is supposed to do. So I give it the tag, highly recommended!

My only wish left would be a Mac OSX version.

Reports have been coming in surrounding a possible iPhone App release from Apple, which will bring FM radio to the device. Sources claim that it will work as the iPod App in many ways, such as the ability to listen to music/radio while browsing Safari or using other applications. We are not yet sure if the App will be integrated into the currently existing iPod App, or if it will be launched as a stand-alone application.

One of the features which have been mostly discussed, is song tagging, which allows you to tag a song in the radio so that it can later be traced and purchased in the iTunes Store. In many ways, this rumored FM radio capability for the iPhone, seems to be very much like the one in the iPod Nano, though it will probably take advantage of iPhone’s unique functions as well.

Apple’s MobileMe iDisk application for iPhone [App Store, Free], which has been listed as a forthcoming feature since Apple revamped its iPhone feature pages following its Worldwide Developers Conference in early June, is now available for download from the App Store. The application allows MobileMe members to easily browse and view files stored on their iDisk and share files with others via integrated e-mail links.

Cydia Store has been opened for business for around three weeks. Have anyone purchased any Cydia Application from Cydia Store? I bought the first paid application – Cyntact from Cydia Store. The shopping experience from Cydia Store is very different from App Store. And, here I’d like to walk you through how you can purchase a paid Cydia application.

If you’re already using Jailbroken iPhone, you should have used Cydia to download free iPhone application. Cydia Store is just an extension of the original Cydia application that lets you to purchase paid application, which can’t make into the Apple’s App Store.

Shopping on Cydia Store

By launching Cydia, you’d see a “Cydia Store: Products” button. Tap on it will bring to the Cydia Store.

To show you the shopping experience of Cydia Store, I purchased the Cyntact application. What’s this app about? Wait… I’ll show you after the walkthrough.

Now when you select a paid application in Cydia, you’ll see the same package screen that shows the package description but the “Install” button is replaced by the “Purchase” button.

Show Your Identity

Before you can purchase paid application, Cydia Store requires you to show your identity. Unlike Apple’s App Store, Cydia Store does not require you to register an account. Instead, you can choose to use your Facebook or Google account to logon the store.

As for this walkthrough, I logged on via my Facebook ID. Simply tap “Connect with Facebook”, Cydia will bring you to the logon interface of Facebook. Select “Log into Cydia” and sign in with your Facebook account.

Once authenticated, Cydia store requests you to link the device with your Cydia account forpurchase authorization.

Proceed to Payment

Next, you’ll have to make the payment. Presently, Cydia Store only supports payment via Amazon and Paypal. But if you opt for Paypal, you’ll be charged an addition of 25 cents. So, like me, you’ll probably opt for Amazon Payment to save money.

By tapping “Pay $1.00 Now”, you’ll be brought to Amazon Payment. If you already have an Amazon account, simply logon using the registered email address. Otherwise, register a new one. Next, type in the Credit Card information and proceed to confirmation.

Almost complete… Install the Application

Once you confirm the payment, you’ll be brought back to the Cyntact package screen. But this time, the “Purchase” button is changed to “Install” button. And, you can go ahead to install Cyntact on iPhone.

Cyntact – The First Paid Application on Cydia Store

So, what’s Cyntact? Cyntact is the first paid application released on Cydia Store. It tweaks the iPhone Contacts application and displays a profile thumbnail in the contact list. That’s really simple.

That’s how you purchase an app from Cydia Store. As you see from the walkthrough, buying an iPhone app on Cydia store takes much more steps, as compared with App Store. Many suggested that Cydia Store is a potential threat to Apple’s App Store. Base on my shopping experience, however, the developers of Cydia store will need to work harder and provide iPhone user a better shopping experience in order to compete with App Store.
