The US emergency room doctors begin using the devices to order lab tests and medications; and other medical pros find other ways to deploy the Apple tablet.

Here in Chicago area, doctors are increasingly using iPads as medical tools, accessing medical records, showing X-rays and other lab tests and more. A report from Chicago’s Sun Times tells us that next month, the University of Chicago Medical Center plans to provide iPads to all of its internal medicine residents, expanding on a pilot program launched earlier this year.

“Another hospital that has embraced the iPad is MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island. Once doctors there learned that they could access the hospitals electronic medical records with the iPad, “it went through here like wildfire,” said Dr. Richard Watson, an emergency room physician at MetroSouth. “At least half of our staff here in the emergency room has the own iPad and carries it and uses it.”

Why iPad all around again? I stated this statement because I can see people especially every professionals carrying an iPad to their work place. The younger generation though uses much of it. I just wanted to say that Apple’s products are becoming a style statement in the present world.

But what’s the use of an iPad for a doctor? Let’s find out.

I got to know that iPad is appreciated for the fact that it boots up faster than a laptop. Moreover,

“The iPad offers a ‘low profile’ that doesn’t seem intimidating to patients during exams,

said Dr. Jon Wahrenberger, cardiologist at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.

“But the bigger value comes from the fact that he’s able to use his iPad to interact with patients’ electronic health records — functionality made possible by an app from Epic called Haiku”

he said further.

So Apple’s iPad is not only for show but has its utility in the life saving institutes.

With this a time will come when patients will be seen carrying iPad to the hospitals.

The never ending magic of iPad hypnotizes all. It has been recently adopted by the School of Medicine at Stanford University welcoming all first year medical students and students up for their masters too.

Some of the reasons cited by the school behind this innovative idea includes students readiness towards the iPad, the creation of opportunities for an efficient and innovative learning by the iPad. The flexibility of iPad’s technology which allows students to view course content electronically, advance preparation as well as jotting down class notes in a highly portable, sharable and a searchable format.

The school is also in consideration to access information and “information literacy”, where students will be able to easily access high quality information at any pace and at any time.

Stanford and Apple have a long history of interaction and without any mention about Steve
Jobs invited and addressed the university students for a commencement address in 2005. Later Stanford doctors later treated Jobs through his battle of pancreatic cancer. So, all thumbs up for those lucky Stanford students with such a grand iPad welcome at the university.

On Tuesday 12 January 2010, Haiti was hit by an earthquake which destroyed the capital Port-au-prince completely, left millions homeless and made more than a hundred thousand deadly victims. The people who are left behind can use all the support they need and therefore the world is coming into action. That includes the independent iPhone developers community and therefore over 60 other iPhone and Mac developers have decided to donate all revenue their apps generate on the 20th of January 2010 to a good cause which is currently aiding the Haitian people.

There are several causes to which app developers are going to donate their revenue. Some include UNICEF, Doctors without borders, …

Small developers don’t make a lot of revenue, but considering there are about 60 involved, you just know that this action will bring in a lot of money for the Haitian people.

So if you decide to buy an App, certainly check out the Indie Relief website and check to see if there isn’t an alternative that will aid Haiti.
