How to Put an iPhone Into DFU Mode

by Tsukhiumong on March 4, 2011

in apple

Before going to DFU tutorial, Lets us know what DFU is. DFU is a Device Firmware Update. It initiate when a restore-Recovery Mode doesn’t response and you switch DFU Mode as a last resort.

One thing you need to know is that when placing your iPhone into DFU Mode it does not load the OS before you attempt the restore.

In order to put your iPhone into DFU mode, you can do on iTunes Firmware restore.

Here are the following steps:

Step 1

First you need to open iTunes and connect iPhone to your Mac.

Step 2

Step 2 requires you to press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.

Step 3

Now exactly after 10 seconds, you need to release the Sleep/Wake button. But remember that you don’t leave the Home button because you need to continue holding the home button until your iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

Step 4

When you are in DFU mode your iPhone screen will be completely black

Note:

Remember that if you see the restore logo, iTunes logo, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode but standard Recovery Mode. Again, DFU mode is signified by having a completely black screen on the device. if you are not able to crack in the first then a few attempts will get your iPhone into DFU mode.

Please let us know if there updated version for DFU mode.

The Third iPhone Worm Discovered

A fortnight ago, there was first iPhone malicious worm discovered in Australia, and was harmless – did nothing except major. It just changed the background picture on the iPhone. Then came a new malware attack just a few days later, and today the third iPhone worm is discovered and it can steal your information.

The new worm only affects jailbroken iPhones which the SSH password hasn’t been changed and this worm appears to be isolated in the Netherlands. This worm appears to be far more serious than the first iPhone worm, since it can access and control the iPhone remotely without the permission of its owner. More specifically are those who uses the iPhone for internet banking with Dutch online bank ING at risk, since the worm redirects the bank’s customers to a site that looks like the original log-in screen, but it is fake and the information you give will be stored in a server in Lithuania.

According to The Loop, Apple has issued a brief statement regarding the latest malware attack:

“The worm affects only a very specific set of iPhone users who have jail broken their iPhones and hacked it with unauthorized software,” Apple spokesperson, Natalie Harrison, told The Loop. “As we’ve said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones, and for good reason. These hacks not only violate the warranty, they will also cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably.”
We at AppleLunch recommends that you stay away from jailbreaks, since it can do more harm than good. The latest worm attacks proves our allegation right.

Atom OSXWith the latest Mac OSX update for Snow Leopard, v10.6.2, Intel Atom processors were no longer supported. This has consequences for a lot of Hackintoshers who installed Mac OSX on their netbooks using the hackintosh kernel-mod. But it took no longer than 2 weeks before the restrictive work of Apple was undone by a new hack of Mac OSX’s Darwin kernel.

The Mac OSX 10.6.2 Atom restriction came in the knowledge that Mac OSX shouldn’t normally run on Atom processors. So with the update Apple shut down netbook users from the latest Mac OSX update. Who updated his hackintosh installation to v10.6.2 was no longer able to boot.

But a russian hacker known as “tea” has released another upgrade of the 32-bits mach_kernel for Mac OSX 10.6.2 among the OSx86. This means that all owners of netbooks and nettops with an atom processor will once again enjoy their favorite hacked OS.

Hackintoshers can now download the new hacked kernel and get it up and running with some terminal work. Nothing for the normal home-user, but hackintosh users should manage to update without many problems.

Download: Custom Custom Firmware 3.1 For iPhone 3Gs

Yesterday the iPhone DevTeam released the latest version of PwnageTool. Unfortunately it is still for Mac users only. Here you can download custom 3.1 firmwares for your 3Gs, but read the rules before downloading.

First thing you need to do is to jailbreak your iPhone 3Gs using firmware 3.0 or 3.0.1. If you are on 3.1 , you need to downgrade (if you can) otherwise jailbreak for OS 3.1 WILL NOT WORK!

The iPhone 3Gs is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the phone was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 – PwnageTool does not support the 3Gs out of the box. If your iPhone 3Gs has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak solution at the moment.

Q: Why there is a 500 MB custom firmware and a 1 GB custom firmware? What’s the difference?
A: The amount of apps you can install is greater on the 1GB version, the amount of music etc you can use is greater on a 500MB version.

Q: What’s the difference between activated and unactivated custom firmware? Which one should i use?
A: If you use offical carrier then you should use the UNACTIVATED custom firmware. If you are using other sim cards ( not the official carrier sim cards ) should use the ACTIVATED custom firmware

Q: Great, Rapidshare again?!?!?
A: Just stop bitching about it….

Q: Ok , i downloaded the custom firmware, now what?
A: Connect your iPhone, open iTunes and hit Shift+Restore. Browse for your custom firmware that you just downloaded and restore your iPhone with it. Thats it.
