Before going to DFU tutorial, Lets us know what DFU is. DFU is a Device Firmware Update. It initiate when a restore-Recovery Mode doesn’t response and you switch DFU Mode as a last resort.

One thing you need to know is that when placing your iPhone into DFU Mode it does not load the OS before you attempt the restore.

In order to put your iPhone into DFU mode, you can do on iTunes Firmware restore.

Here are the following steps:

Step 1

First you need to open iTunes and connect iPhone to your Mac.

Step 2

Step 2 requires you to press and hold the Home button and the Sleep/Wake button at the same time.

Step 3

Now exactly after 10 seconds, you need to release the Sleep/Wake button. But remember that you don’t leave the Home button because you need to continue holding the home button until your iTunes pops up a message telling you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.

Step 4

When you are in DFU mode your iPhone screen will be completely black

Note:

Remember that if you see the restore logo, iTunes logo, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode but standard Recovery Mode. Again, DFU mode is signified by having a completely black screen on the device. if you are not able to crack in the first then a few attempts will get your iPhone into DFU mode.

Please let us know if there updated version for DFU mode.

This time the water has gone above the head. It surprised me when people’s account were being cracked and purchase were being made. The iTune users are receiving fake phishing e-mail messages that try to trick users into disclosing their iTunes user names and passwords. Those credentials are then used to pile on charges for music or iTunes gift codes.

“People are seen clamoring that through their iTunes, purchases are being carried out without their knowledge” report IDG News Service.

Apple on Monday said”we have been working with to prevent fraud and enhance password security for all of our users”

“But if your credit card or iTunes password is stolen and used on iTunes we recommend that you contact your financial institution and inquire about canceling the card and/or issuing a chargeback for any unauthorized transactions. We also recommend that you change your iTunes account password immediately”.

As a user I would do whatsoever to prevent my account from being hacked so I would rush to the concern authority to file a check. You better have a check on yours before your account gets bankrupt.

Thanks, www.MacWorld.com

A fortnight ago, there was first iPhone malicious worm discovered in Australia, and was harmless – did nothing except major. It just changed the background picture on the iPhone. Then came a new malware attack just a few days later, and today the third iPhone worm is discovered and it can steal your information.

The new worm only affects jailbroken iPhones which the SSH password hasn’t been changed and this worm appears to be isolated in the Netherlands. This worm appears to be far more serious than the first iPhone worm, since it can access and control the iPhone remotely without the permission of its owner. More specifically are those who uses the iPhone for internet banking with Dutch online bank ING at risk, since the worm redirects the bank’s customers to a site that looks like the original log-in screen, but it is fake and the information you give will be stored in a server in Lithuania.

According to The Loop, Apple has issued a brief statement regarding the latest malware attack:

“The worm affects only a very specific set of iPhone users who have jail broken their iPhones and hacked it with unauthorized software,” Apple spokesperson, Natalie Harrison, told The Loop. “As we’ve said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones, and for good reason. These hacks not only violate the warranty, they will also cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably.”
We at AppleLunch recommends that you stay away from jailbreaks, since it can do more harm than good. The latest worm attacks proves our allegation right.

This has consequences for a lot of Hackintoshers who installed Mac OSX on their netbooks using the hackintosh kernel-mod. But it took no longer than 2 weeks before the restrictive work of Apple was undone by a new hack of Mac OSX’s Darwin kernel.

The Mac OSX 10.6.2 Atom restriction came in the knowledge that Mac OSX shouldn’t normally run on Atom processors. So with the update Apple shut down netbook users from the latest Mac OSX update. Who updated his hackintosh installation to v10.6.2 was no longer able to boot.

But a russian hacker known as “tea” has released another upgrade of the 32-bits mach_kernel for Mac OSX 10.6.2 among the OSx86. This means that all owners of netbooks and nettops with an atom processor will once again enjoy their favorite hacked OS.

Hackintoshers can now download the new hacked kernel and get it up and running with some terminal work. Nothing for the normal home-user, but hackintosh users should manage to update without many problems.

Yesterday the iPhone DevTeam released the latest version of PwnageTool. Unfortunately it is still for Mac users only. Here you can download custom 3.1 firmwares for your 3Gs, but read the rules before downloading.

First thing you need to do is to jailbreak your iPhone 3Gs using firmware 3.0 or 3.0.1. If you are on 3.1 , you need to downgrade (if you can) otherwise jailbreak for OS 3.1 WILL NOT WORK!

The iPhone 3Gs is now supported in PwnageTool 3.1.3, assuming the phone was pwned at 3.0 or 3.0.1 – PwnageTool does not support the 3Gs out of the box. If your iPhone 3Gs has 3.1 preinstalled and is not Pwned then there is no tested jailbreak solution at the moment.

Q: Why there is a 500 MB custom firmware and a 1 GB custom firmware? What’s the difference?
A: The amount of apps you can install is greater on the 1GB version, the amount of music etc you can use is greater on a 500MB version.

Q: What’s the difference between activated and unactivated custom firmware? Which one should i use?
A: If you use offical carrier then you should use the UNACTIVATED custom firmware. If you are using other sim cards ( not the official carrier sim cards ) should use the ACTIVATED custom firmware

Q: Great, Rapidshare again?!?!?
A: Just stop bitching about it….

I originally signed up with Vonage because it was inexpensive and it gave me unlimited calls to France (and other countries) where all my friends and family still are. As my fiance and I are planning our one-year trip around the globe, I started looking into getting Vonage on my iPhone so I can make calls from my iPhone, either over 3G or wifi, using my Vonage plan.

There are many reports showing that Vonage is currently working on an iPhone app but it’s probably not going to happen anytime soon. By digging a little more, I found this article that shows you how to set up Vonage on your iphone by using your Vonage line as a SIP line.

First, you have to find out your Vonage SIP credentials. To do so, open your internet browser from your house and point it to:

https://im-config.vonagenetworks.net/config?&login=USERNAME&password=PASSWORD&type=1003

Replace USERNAME and PASSWORD by your Vonage account username and password.

This is going to open a page with a bunch of information. The information we need is at the top of the page. You are looking for something like that:

[SIP 2.0]
ProxyUserName=iphoner
ProxyUserPassword=Y0ur1Ph0ne5ux
ProxyDomain=a.vonim.com
ProxyPort=10000

Next step is downloading an SIP client for your iPhone. I recommend using Fring as it can be downloaded for free from the App Store. If your iPhone is jailbroken, you can also download SIPhone from Cydia.

Launch Fring then sign up or login with your existing account. Go to More > Add-ons > SIP > Other.

Fill out the required fields as follow:

User ID = ProxyUserName
Password = ProxyUserPassword
Proxy = a.vonim.com:10000

Save these settings. You can now place a call from your iPhone using your Vonage account, assuming you have wifi connectivity. If your iPhone is jailbroken, download VoIPover3G from Cydia and you will also be able to use Vonage from your iPhone over 3G.

It works great but for some reason, I can’t have it place international calls. Every time I try to call France, it gives me an error message. It’s still pretty awesome that you can use your Vonage account to place calls for free over wifi and 3G.

That’s a pretty sweet hack, eh! What do you think?

As we reported earlier today, security experts Charlie Miller and Collin Mulliner have exposed an iPhone virus that could allow criminals to control your phone just by sending a single text message (SMS). Their presentation, at the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas, is making a lot of waves, but the details are scattered or overly technical for most iPhone owners.

That’s why we’ve done some research on the information that has come out on this security vulnerability. The technical detail involved in the hack can be overwhelming, so we’re synthesizing it down to the key points – as well what you can expect. Don’t be alarmed, but be vigilant. Here’s the security breakdown:
1. The major issue is a security flaw involving SMS. Specifically, the hack can control an iPhone remotely, including your iPhone’s camera, Safari, and more. It can even send messages to friends in your address book, which is where this hack becomes scariest.

2. The hack works by sending you code in an SMS message (or a series of messages) that crashes your iPhone. After that, your iPhone is theirs to use.

3. The offending text would come in the form of a single square character. If you get the square character, turn off your phone IMMEDIATELY.

4. You only have to receive the message to get hacked; you don’t even have to do anything with the text message.

5. The flaw was discovered by noted security expert Charlie Miller, who has hacked everything from MacBook Airs to Second Life, and partner Collin Mullinger.

6. The attack was presented publicly at the Black Hat conference. The duo decided to do this after Apple gave them no response back in July, when they provided Apple with information on the security flaw. The goal is to bring attention to the flaw (which they are clearly getting).

7. According to Reuters, now that the vulnerability is exposed, hackers could build software that mounts this SMS attack within the next two weeks.

8. Apparently Google Android, Windows Mobile phones, and Palm Pres are vulnerable to similar hacks. The team demonstrated the attack on an Android phone and a Windows Mobile phone.
While we’re still sifting through very technical information on this attack, it’s a clear reminder that no software, no computer, and no phone is safe from thieves, hackers, and harm. We’ll provide additional updates as they come from either Black Hat or Apple.

Update: For now, your phone isn’t in immediate danger, as it will take time before malicious individuals can build the necessary code to mount this type of SMS attack. We’ll update you if that changes.

While Apple is struggling to get the iPhone adopted by business users, some more problems come their way as iPhone hacker NerveGas found yet another security hole that can allow anyone with a little technical knowledge to bypass the passcode and access encrypted and protected information on your iPhone 3GS. You can see NerveGas hacking an iPhone 3GS in the video below.

Zdziarski said it’s just as easy to access a user’s private information on an iPhone 3GS as it was on the previous generation iPhone 3G or first generation iPhone, both of which didn’t feature encryption. If a thief got his hands on an iPhone, a little bit of free software is all that’s needed to tap into all of the user’s content. Live data can be extracted in as little as two minutes, and an entire raw disk image can be made in about 45 minutes, Zdziarski said.

If you’re an average iPhone user like me, chances are you don’t care much about this security hole. However, if you’re a business person, that can be a big thread to you.

Hey Apple, why don’t you stop worrying about the jailbreakers out there and start working on making the iPhone a more secured device?

Normally, to reboot your iPhone, you’ll need to first power it of and then turn it back on again. With GPower, it adds options to let you slide to reboot.

To install GPower, launch Cydia and tap “Search” button. Search for “GPower” and install it. Once installed, you can simply press and hold the “Power/Sleep” button to invoke it.

Same as other hacks, GPower only works on jailbroken iPhone and it also supports iPhone 3.0.

Via a simple SMS, the iPhone can be hacked, according to Cjarlie Miller. Miller is a well-known securityspecialist and author of the Mac Hacker’s Handbook. Via the SMS vulnerability you’ll get access to the root of the iPhone. The SMS leak will give the attacker the possiblity to activate certain code via an SMS-message sent to you, Miller mentioned on the SyScan exchange.

The code can for example, track the location of the phone, turn-on the microphone or totally block it. By sending several SMS-messages written in binary code, an entire program can be send. This program then can get access to the root of the iPhone, causing lots of trouble.

Such leaks in applications are not that bad, because the applications run in their own sandbox. Imagine such a sandbox as an island where all bridges to the shore are up and not accessible.

Apple’s working on a patch for the SMS vulnerability. That patch is expected to be ready at the end of this month. After the patch is released, Miller will describe further details about the leak on the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas.

There’s also a positive side to all this. Miller tells that the version of OS X for the iPhone is still safer than the entire OS X for desktops and laptops. That’s because applications like Java and Flash are not available on the iPhone OS.

“The iPhone is more secure than OS X, but SMS could be a critical vulnerability,” says Miller.
