Here are the instructions on how to jailbreak your iPad 1 on the 4.3.3 firmware using RedSn0w for Windows.

Step 1.
First you need to create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage

Download RedSn0w from here and place it in the Pwnage folder. Likewise, download the latest 4.3.3 firmware from below and place it in the same folder.

4.3.3 (iPad 1): iPad1,1_4.3.3_8J3_Restore.ipsw

Extract the RedSn0w zip file into the same folder.

Step 2.
Connect your iPad to the computer and launch iTunes.

Select your devices on the left. Now hold down Shift and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won’t create any wasted space on your iPad.

Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the 4.3.3 firmware ipsw. Click the Choose button to continue.

Step 3.
Open the Pwnage folder on your desktop once iTunes has finished updating your iPad to the desired firmware and launch the redsn0w application from the redsn0w folder we extracted earlier.

Step 4.
Open the Pwnage folder on your desktop

Step 5.
Select the 4.3.3 firmware ipsw from the Pwnage folder on your desktop then click Open.

Step 6.
Once the firmware has been verified click the Next button to continue.

Step 7.
RedSn0w will now prepare the jailbreak data

Step 8.
You can select the jailbreak options you would like. Make sure Cydia is selected and click the Next button to continue.

Step 9.
Make sure to plug your iPad into the computer and is OFF then click the Next button.

Step 10.
RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode.

Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.

Now you can release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.

Step 12.
RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk and Kernel.

Step 11.
Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button. When your iPad finishes rebooting (5 minutes or so) it will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.

If you previously have used Windows, you might have noticed that there are no “Print Screen” button on your MacBook or MacBook Pro, and then wondering how to take a screenshot. Here is an easy-to-follow guide that can help you.

There are different methods to take a screenshot in Mac OS X. Let’s start with the easiest.

Keyboard combinations

Command + Shift + 3 Takes a screenshot of the entire screen and saves it on the desktop
Command + Shift + 4 Select an area and it will be saved as a picture file on your desktop
Command + Shift + 4 + Space + Click a window The clicked window will be saved as a picture file on the desktop
Command + Control + Shift + 3 Takes a screenshot of the entire screen, and saves it to clipboard*
Command + Control + Shift + 4 Select an area and it will be saved to clipboard*
Command + Control + Shift + 4 + Space + Click a window The clicked window will be saved as a picture file on your clipboard*

* When you have a screenshot saved to your clipboard, you can open Preview and pressCommand + N and the screenshot will be inserted. You can also in an opened conversation in iChat or Adium, press Command + V to insert the screenshot in a conversation.

Using Grab

If you have trouble with the keyboard combinations, you can use the built-in application in every Mac OS X called “Grab.” You can find Grab in /Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities. After you have opened the application, click “Capture” and then select if you would like to take a screenshot of a selection, a window, a screen or a timed screen, which will take a screenshot of the entire screen 10 seconds after affirmation.

The screenshot will be saved to Preview, where you can choose to make annotations to it, and save it as the file format you like.

This guide and tutorial will show you how to jailbreak your iPhone 3G running firmware 3.1, using PwnageTool for Mac OS X. So far, only PwnageTool is available for jailbreaking the 3.1 iPhone 3G and it is only for Mac. I believe a RedSn0w method for both Mac and PC will be available soon.

1. Make sure you have installed the latest version of iTunes (iTunes 9).

2. On your desktop, create a folder called “jailbreak” or whatever name you want to give it. It doesn’t really matter. Download PwnageTool 3.1 and the 3.1 IPSW (iPhone1,2_3.1_7C144_Restore.ipsw) from here and save them into the “jailbreak” folder. Note that you should download the firmware using FireFox as Safari often brings up issues. Also note that the PwnageTool download link is a torrent and you will need a torrent downloader (ie. uTorrent) to download it.

3. Launch PwnageTool. It will give you some sort of warning. Just click OK. On the next screen, choose the “Expert Mode”.

4. Select your iPhone model and click the blue arrow to continue.

5. Browse for the IPSW you downloaded in step 2. You should then get a green check mark.

6. You will now be offered several options. Choose “General”. Make sure the “Activate the phone” box is left UNCHECKED. This is very important. I repeat: make sure the “activate the phone” box is blank.

7. Increase the root partition size to 700 MB. This is not necessary but it is safer. Then click the blue arrow to continue. Click the blue arrow one more time to skip the bootneuter settings, which aren’t available for the iPhone 3G.

8. You will now have the possibility to pre-install a few packages from Cydia so you don’t have to do it manually later. I will skip this part. Click the blue arrow to go to the next step.

9. You will now be in the “Custom packages settings”. Make sure Cydia is selected and you may want to select Icy as well. For what it’s worth, I do not use Icy. I only use Cydia but you’re free to select both if you want. Whatever you do, make sure at least Cydia is selected. Click the blue arrow to continue.

10. You can now set your own “Custom logos settings”. I don’t use any but again, you can choose the one pre-selected or you can even upload your own. If you choose to upload your own, remember the logo mustn’t be bigger than 320 x 480. Click the blue arrow when done to continue.

11. It is now time to start the pwnage process. You should be on the main options screen offering you 6 different options. Choose “Build” and click the blue arrow to continue.

12. You will now have to save your custom IPSW file. Save it in the “jailbreak” folder we created in step 2.

13. Your custom IPSW firmware will now be built, which may take up to 15 minutes, so be patient.

14. You will most likely be asked for your administrator password. Fill in the blanks and click OK.

15. You will then be asked if your iPhone has been pwned before. Just answer “No”.

16. Now is the most important step. You will first be asked to turn off your iPhone. Follow the instructions on your computer screen to put your iPhone into DFU mode. Basically, you have to hold the home and power buttons together for 10 seconds, then release the power button but still hold the home button. If done correctly, PwnageTool will tell you you successfully entered the DFU mode.

17. If iTunes hasn’t launched automatically, open it. iTunes should tell you it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. Click OK.

18. In iTunes, hold the “Alt/Option” key and click Restore at the same time. DO NOT click “restore” without holding the “Alt/Option” key! A window will pop up and you’ll be able to choose the custom IPSW file you created in step12 that you saved in your “jailbreak” folder.

19. iTunes will now work on restoring your iPhone using the custom firmware.

20. Done! You will now be offered the option to set up your iPhone as a new phone or restore from a previous backup. I personally like to start fresh and I always choose to set it up as a new phone, but it’s your choice.

21. You should now see the Cydia icon on the second page of applications on your iPhone. Congratulations, you just jailbreaked your iPhone 3G 3.1 with PwnageTool.

HowTo: Recover Lost Data From Your iPhone

by tABStaff on August 13, 2009 · 0 comments

in apple

You can learn how to backup everything you need, from contacts to visual voicemail to videos from 3rd party recorders. But what happens if you iPhone gets bricked, or you restore it w/o any backup or any other similar situation where you loose precious data?

That could be the end of your world…trust me,  literally !!! Well, not necessarily. Depending on what you need to recover and your computer skills here are two methods which you can use to recover your data. First method is pretty advanced and dont think that is accessible to everybody. Second method is a much more simpler one, is actually a software you can use to recover your data. But since is a simpler one, that means that is not as complex as the first one, and your recovery capabilities are limited. Still a life saving method.

Don’t be discouraged if you dont understand the first method , really please dont be. If you are interested or maybe passionate , you can use the second method and recover your ass , than you can explore the first method. My advice is to “explore” it on an extra device (if you have one) not your primary iPhone, because you will end up like this :

  • you keep on trying and trying and you dont succeed and a vein will pop
  • you wipe out your device

Method 1

What you’ll need:

  • Jailbroken device
  • BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH installed on your iPhone
  • Terminal (or MobileTerminal) installed on your iPhone
  • An SSH server installed on your computer
  • The ‘DD’ utility installed on your computer (this should be pre-installed on most Linux systems) ( read more about it here )
  • Your iPhone’s IP address
  • Your computer’s IP address

First, make sure that your iPhone and computer are on the same LAN. You can try to ping your computer from your iPhone (using Terminal) and vice versa, just to make sure they can see each other on your LAN. For example: ping 192.168.x.xxx

Next, you’ll want to make sure that you can SSH into your computer from the iPhone. To do that, open Terminal on the iPhone and enter: ssh <username>@<computer-ip>

Where:

  • <username> is Your user name on the computer.
  • <computer-ip> is Your computer’s IP address on the LAN.

If that worked, you should be prompted to enter a password for . If the connection times out, then you need to make sure that you have the SSH server running on your computer and make sure that port 22 (the default SSH port) isn’t being blocked by your router’s firewall.

Once you know that your iPhone and the computer are talking to each other, open Terminal on the iPhone and run the following command to begin transferring the iPhone’s “disk” image to your computer (be sure to run this as root using ’su’):

NOTE: Make certain that your iPhone’s screen lock is disabled first. If the screen lock comes on, it will kill the SSH connection. Also, you’ll want to connect your iPhone to its charger. This transfer can take a while.

dd if=/dev/disk0 | ssh @ ‘dd of=iphone-dump.img’

The above command will create a “disk” image of your iPhone (named “iphone-dump.img”) on your computer. Feel free to use a different name or a different destination directory. For example: ‘dd of=/home/username/iphone-dump.img’.

Also, be sure that you don’t mix up the if (input-file) and of (output-file) in the command above.Doing so could wipe-out your iPhone.

Method 2:

3_wizard

As i told you above, this is a software that you can use to recover your data.iPhone Backup Extractoris an easy-to-use program to extract files from an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G s iTunes backup. It is useful for restoring AppStore applications, SMS histories, contact lists, call histories, photographs and other data that might otherwise be inaccessible. On Windows, the registered version can automatically convert the extracted Apple databases into CSV format, so they can be easily imported into Excel, Outlook, or Webmail.

The backup extractor is free for non-commercial use, although registered users enjoy a number of benefits including faster restores, restoration of multiple files at a time, and automatic export to CSV (Windows only). Commercial (ie. business users) users must register.

iPhone Backup Extractor is a cross-platform software , meaning it will work on OSX, Windows and Linux.

f you are still using a first gen iPhone ( 2G/EDGE ) or a iPhone 3G, you know how precious the memory is. If you are using your iPhone’s internet capabilities to the fullest, you noticed that your RAM is dropping like flies.

You can stop Safari running in the background after you close it. One way is to kill it is to use the processes toggle, but thats not really convenient. The aim is to automatically make Safari stop running in the background.

Luckily somebody thought about this and it works great. All you need to do is to load cydia , add this source: cydia.iphoneil.net and than search/install SafariQuitter .Once SafariQuitter is installed you will respring your iPhone/iTouch and you are good to go.

I see a major increase in the amount of free RAM i have since i start using this tweak. Before i usually had 18-25 MB of free RAM now i constantly have 40MB of free RAM.
