Those of you who have updated to iPhone OS 3.0 (jailbroken) might have noticed that your jailbroken apps (Apps installed outside from App Store) have stopped working. Even if you have tried reinstalling them they wont work because these apps require a patched version of MobileInstallation file on your iPhone. Here’s what you have to do to patch the mobileinstallation file on your iPhone, although some have reported that the Mobileinstallation beta file works. I have personally used this method below and can confirm that it works.

Method:

1. Go to “Cydia”.

2. Click on “Manage” tab on the bottom.

3. Now click on “Sources” as seen in the screenshot below:

4. Click on “Edit” and then on “Add”. You will be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type “http://cydia.hackulo.us” and click on “Add Source”. Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.

5. After installation is completed. Search for “AppSync” in Cydia and install this application. This app will automatically patch your mobileinstallation file.

You should be now able to install all of your jailbroken apps on iPhone OS 3.0.

People who are on 3G 3.0, I figured out why some people are not
1. Receiving calls but able to make calls
2. Wifi is not working properly
3. Struck at apple logo when some apps installed

This is primarily due to
1. If you have UPGRADED (clicking on ‘upgrade’ button in itunes) your iPhone from 2.x firmware to 3.0
2. If you have used Gold master firmware
3. If you have restored from backup after restoring to 3.0

If you have upgraded to 3.0 then you will not receive incoming calls properly. Some people might even face the WiFi issue. This is due to that the baseband firmware is not upgraded properly. iTunes has NOT erased the baseband and installed a new firmware. It has just written few important patches..

DO NOT restore from backup as 3.0 has a different framework (or Something)! This can also cause problem.

What can you do about this??

Follow these steps
1. Put iPhone in DFU mode and restore to 3.0
2. Then use redsn0w to jailbreak (Click here)
3. Open itunes, SETUP iPhone AS NEW iPhone
4. turn OFF WiFi, 3G and Push
5. Turn ON Airplane more
6. Sync ur songs with itunes…

Restart your phone… and then check… (Hope it will work)

After analysing the logs and the patches sent by itunes to iphone while restoring I was able to figure it out.. Nothing is wrong with ur phone… So dont panic.

If you still find this problem persisting you need to go to 2.2.1 and manually flash the 4.26.08 baseband!

Apple has seeded developers of their iPhone Developer Program with beta version of iPhone OS 3.1 (build number is 7C97D) and iPhone SDK.

Apple hasn’t provided much details about the improvements expected in iPhone OS 3.1 but developers have already stumbled upon some interesting changes in the latest iPhone OS.
According to developers following changes in iPhone OS 3.1:

    * Non-destructive video editing means trimming a clip no longer saves over the original video but gives you the option to “Save as copy…”
* Voice Control now works over Bluetooth
* iPhone vibrates when moving icons
* Updated AT&T profile to 4.2
* Updated modem firmware to 5.08.01
* Improvements to OpenGL and Quartz.
* APIs to allow third party apps to access videos and edit them.

There are also reports that MMS feature is enabled for AT&T users but it does not work as for some reason it hangs and fails before MMS goes out.

The iPhone Dev team has also warned users who are interested in unlocking their iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS should avoid updating their iPhone with iPhone OS 3.1 (including iPhone OS 3.1 beta) until they release tools to update firmware without updating the baseband. They have also clarified that the warning does not apply to first generation iPhone users as it uses BootNeuter for the unlock, not Ultrasn0w.

But please note that you’ll have to re-install all the Cydia applications after upgrade. And, at the time I write this post, not all Cydia applications (e.g. Backgrounder, iRealSMS, MySMS, BossTool, Quickgold) are compatible with iPhone 3.0. So, if you have any cydia applications that you rely on, please ensure its compatibility before upgrading.

For iPhone 3GS user, please do not use Redsn0w to jailbreak your new iPhone. Presently, there is no way to jailbreak iPhone 3GS.

Now, let’s get started.

To jailbreak iPhone 3.0 OS on Windows, we’ll use Redsn0w to jailbreak your iPhone. Developed by iPhone Dev Team, Redsn0w is a replacement of QuickPwn to jailbreak iPhone 3.0. The jailbreak process is very straightforward that any iPhone owner can manage the jailbreak.

Preparation for Jailbreak & Unlock

1. First, make sure you have upgraded to iTunes version 8.2 and backup your iPhone data by synchronizing it with iTunes.

Tip: If you’re upgrading the iPhone from older version of firmware, make sure you sync the iPhone with iTunes. This ensures all your SMS, contacts and applications can be restored after the firmware upgrade.

2. Download Redsn0w 0.7.2 (or download from here), Bootloader 3.9 & 4.6 and iPhone firmware 3.0 (2G / 3G). Save them all in the same folder. And unzip redsn0w-win_0.7.2.zip. So make sure you have all the files in place before proceeding to next step.

Installing iPhone 3.0 OS via iTunes

3. Next, connect your iPhone to your computer via USB cable and launch iTunes. Select your iPhone in iTunes.

4. Now, hold the SHIFT key and click the “Restore” button. iTunes will launch a file dialog for you to select the firmware file. Locate the “iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” for iPhone 2G or “iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw” for iPhone 3G that you have downloaded in step 2 and click “Open”.

5. iTunes will then restore your iPhone with firmware 3.0 (or what so called iPhone 3.0 OS). Keep your iPhone connected, don’t touch it and wait until the process completes.

Jailbreaking with Redsn0w

6. Now, your iPhone should be completely restored to firmware 3.0. But it’s not activated right now as you can see from iTunes.

So, what you’re going to do next is to use Redsn0w to activate and jailbreak it. But before proceeding to next step, please power off your iPhone (but keep it connected with USB cable).

7. Next, launch Redsn0w to start jailbreak & unlock.

8. Once launched, click the “Browse” button and select the firmware file that you have downloaded. For iPhone 2G, please locate the “iPhone1,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw”. And, for iPhone 3G, please use “iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw”

Redsn0w will then verify the firmware file. If it’s correct, redsn0w will show the message “IPSW successfully identified”. Then click “Next” button to continue.

9. Next, you’ll need to select the jailbreak option. For iPhone 2G, please select both “Install Cydia” and “Unlock” option. For iPhone 3G, please only select “Install Cydia” option (actually the “Unlock” option is not available for iPhone 3G). Click “Next” button to proceed.

10. Please select the bootloader files that you have downloaded in step 2.

Note: This step is for iPhone 2G only. For iPhone 3G user, this step is skipped.

Put iPhone into DFU Mode

11. Next, redsn0w will instruct you to put your iPhone into DFU mode. Ensure your iPhone is connected (via USB) and it’s turned OFF. If you’re ready, click “Next” to continue.

12. Follow the instructions to put your iPhone into DFU mode.

Tip: You may not be able to put the iPhone into DFU mode for the first trial. Don’t worry. Simply click the “Back” button to go back and try to follow the instructions again. Redsn0w will start the jailbreak process only if it detects your iPhone is properly put into DFU mode.

13. If you have successfully put the iPhone into DFU mode, redsn0w will automatically start the jailbreak process.

14. While jailbreaking, your iPhone will show downloading jailbreak data, flashing NOR, etc. And, just don’t touch your iPhone and keep waiting.

15. Once completed, redsn0w will let you know the jailbreak process is successful. Your iPhone will be restarted and automatically launch BootNeuter to perform unlock. This process will take 3-5 minutes to complete. Be patient. When complete, your iPhone will be rebooted.

16. Congratulation, you’ve completed the jailbreak process for iPhone 3.0 OS. As you can see from the home screen, you now get the new Voice memo application, which is introduced in iPhone 3.0.

17. Lastly, sync back your backup data with iTunes and restore all your contacts & SMS.

This is a compriehnsive step-by-step guide which lets you Jailbreak and Unlock your iPhone 3.0

What you need: Your iPhone, your Mac or PC, iPhone and the USB adapter cable

Note: This works well for iPhone 2G and 3G. If you wish to unlock and Jainbreak 3GS, you would have to wait.

Let’s Start!

Step 1)

You need to jailbreak it first, and that requires redsn0w, a Mac/PC jailbreaking program. Download the official redsnow torrent files HERE, then download redsn0w via your Bittorrent client of choice. Back up your iPhone to your computer before moving forward.

Step 2)

Open redsn0w. Follow its instructions to select your .ipsw (iPhone firmware) file. On Macs, you can find the file at Home Folder/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates. Or just download a new one from HERE. Once you’ve found your .ipsw, move on.

Step 3)

Redsn0w will ask if you want to install Cydia or Icy or Both. (These are apps that can load programs on jailbroken phones and will be needed to unlock the phone later.) JUST INSTALL CYDIA, NOT BOTH. Once the .ipsw file is patched, make sure to plug in your iPhone then turn it off while still plugged. When you see the screen “Click NEXT when your iPhone is both OFF and plugged in…” go on to the next step.

Step 4)

Now you need to put your phone into DFU mode to load the patched firmware. You’ll hold the top power button for two seconds, then hold the Home button with it for 10. Then you’ll release the top button and just hold Home for 30 or so. If you mess up you can just try again, but you need to pay attention, so make sure you’re holding your phone and watching the computer screen when you hit “next.” Redsn0w will guide you through the pattern of holding the top and home buttons in timed succession. If you’re successful, redsn0w will inform you that your phone is being jailbroken and you can stop holding the Home button. If you’re not, redsn0w will reset the process and you’ll probably need to manually restart your iPhone.

Step 5)

Wait as the jailbroken firmware loads onto your iPhone. (You’ll see a disk drive on the phone’s screen, then this cute pineapple graphic as it installs.) After a few minutes, the phone will reboot just as it does with official firmware. Congratulations, your phone is jailbroken! Most of you are done—just load Cydia (which is now an app on your iPhone) and search for apps you’d like to install. Others need to continue this tutorial for the unlock.

Step 6)

If you want to unlock your original or 3G iPhone so it can take a T-Mobile or international SIM, follow these next steps. You’re done with your computer, so make sure your iPhone is on a Wi-Fi connection. We’re going to use Cydia to download and install ultrasn0w, which unlocks your iPhone.

Step 7)

Cydia will first ask what kind of interface you’d like. I’m no hacker, so I chose the graphical view. Then Cydia will want to download at least 2 Essential Upgrades. Let it by choosing “complete upgrade.” If Cydia’s successful, you’ll see a bunch of install code and the option to “Close Cydia (Restart).” Hit that button. (Note: If you are getting errors in this step, it may be because you installed both Cydia and Icy. If you did that, restore your iPhone with official 3.0 firmware via iTunes and start the process over.)

Step 8 )

Reopen Cydia. Go to Manage -> Sources -> Edit – > Add and then enter “repo666.ultrasn0w.com” in the text field. This should add ultrasn0w as a Cydia source so that you can download the ultrasn0w software. Choose to return to Cydia and then click “Done”.

Step 9)

Click the repo666.ultrasn0w.com listing under your Sources. Click repo666.ultrasn0w.com again at the next screen (redundant, we know). Then click Install. You’ll see a black screen with some text and, after a few seconds, it should read “Complete”. Reboot your phone with your new SIM.

Congratulations, your iPhone is unlocked!

Please comment below if you encounter any problem.
