A fortnight ago, there was first iPhone malicious worm discovered in Australia, and was harmless – did nothing except major. It just changed the background picture on the iPhone. Then came a new malware attack just a few days later, and today the third iPhone worm is discovered and it can steal your information.

The new worm only affects jailbroken iPhones which the SSH password hasn’t been changed and this worm appears to be isolated in the Netherlands. This worm appears to be far more serious than the first iPhone worm, since it can access and control the iPhone remotely without the permission of its owner. More specifically are those who uses the iPhone for internet banking with Dutch online bank ING at risk, since the worm redirects the bank’s customers to a site that looks like the original log-in screen, but it is fake and the information you give will be stored in a server in Lithuania.

According to The Loop, Apple has issued a brief statement regarding the latest malware attack:

“The worm affects only a very specific set of iPhone users who have jail broken their iPhones and hacked it with unauthorized software,” Apple spokesperson, Natalie Harrison, told The Loop. “As we’ve said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones, and for good reason. These hacks not only violate the warranty, they will also cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably.”
We at AppleLunch recommends that you stay away from jailbreaks, since it can do more harm than good. The latest worm attacks proves our allegation right.

It couldn’t last any longer: the first known iPhone worm is loose, but fortunately it only attacks jailbroken iPhones.

It’s the antivirus firm Sophos, who details the worm, which surfaced in Australia last week and affects jailbroken iPhones that have SSH installed without and haven’t changed the default password. If you have an iPhone, purchased in a store and haven’t done anything to it but connecting to iTunes, you can stay calm.

Though the worm is harmless and only changes the background image, it is a sign that in the future, more dangerous attacks on jailbroken iPhones could take place, and the worm also indicates so, since Sophos has found multiple variants, as well as numerous comments within the code that tells the worm is an experiment to draw attention to the risk, faced by users that have jailbroken their iPhones.

Our advice to the readers is not to jailbreak your iPhones. The app store offers you nearly everything that you can imagine, including high security..

I know, I know iPhone can get boring. Every time you see the same springboard, every time you see the same wallpaper when somebody is calling you. Yeah , you can install themes, and that can inject some rainbows and butterflies on your iphone, but how cool would it be if you would have a video background on your springboard? And how would you like to have a video ringtone?

That would be badass huh? Well, in a few painless steps, you can have all of that. Check this :

open cydia

search for vWallpaper

install vWallpaper ( now, before you tap confirm make sure it will install vWallpaper and SkrewCommon. By default it does, but, if you wont get a 8-9 megs download and a new icon on your springboard make sure u install SkrewCommon as well ) ( how can u make sure that by installing vWallpaper you install both : well on the confirm screen check what message you get under Modifications – Installing )

That’s it , congrats. Videos are available for download from within the application, along with video ringtones. Also, you may use videos downloaded from MxTube. You can manually upload videos that you want to use via SSH. Just upload any .mp4 file onto

/private/var/mobile/media/Skrew/vRingtones

or

/private/var/mobile/media/Skrew/VWBackground

Just to make sure :

upload .mp4 videos for ringtones in /private/var/mobile/media/Skrew/vRingtones
upload .mp4 videos for background in /private/var/mobile/media/Skrew/VWBackground

NOTE :

You must disable User Wallpaper in Winterboard for it to display

If you got a theme, you must :

ssh onto iphone and delete or rename that theme’s wallpaper

use Mobile Finder, and rename the file

For those who have wanted to unlock their iPhone 3G but have updated to the 2.30 baseband, hope is now here. Thanks to the work of dev pH, a tool has been created to downgrade your baseband, and allow a unlock to occur once again.

To run the pHaseBanDowngrader, connect via SSH to your iPhone and copy the downloaded folder (phasebandowngrader) into the folder “/Applications” on your iPhone.
Note: The folder MUST named phasebandowngrader with lowercase letters!

To run it, open MobileTerminal and type “login”. The user is “root” and password is “alpine” by default. Then type: “cd / Applications/phasebandowngrader/”, then, to run the downgrader, type “./phasebandowngrader”

this tool has been tested by multiple people and WILL NOT brick your device. if you have bootloader version 5.9 it will not work. you can try but it will not work (still no risk of brick)

use at your own risk, but there is really no risk of doing any damage to your device unless you do something absurd
